With NFL Week 3 officially in the books we can go ahead and start looking at the Week 4 slate of games. For the second straight week, we have two Monday Night Football games to wrap up our week. The specific game that we are locked into is the 3-0 Seattle Seahawks taking on the 2-1 Detroit Lions.
In this article, we will dive into our Seahawks @ Lions top picks and break down this Monday Night Football matchup in Detroit.
The Seahawks are riding high after beating the Miami Dolphins at home to improve their record to 3-0 on the season. They won the game handily on the back of a dominant defensive performance, holding the Dolphins to just three points.
Their defense earned six sacks on Miami QBs Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle, while holding the Dolphins passing attack as a whole to under 200 yards total.
The offense for the Seahawks had another good day as well. They were without starting running back Kenneth Walker for the second straight game, but that did not slow down the rushing attack. Second-year man Zach Charbonnet saw 18 carries and rushed for 91 yards while finding the end zone twice.
The passing game got going early as quarterback Geno Smith found DK Metcalf for a 71-yard catch and one touchdown in the first quarter. It was an all-around dominant performance from this Seahawks team against the undermanned Dolphins. This game against the Lions will be an interesting one because they will be by far the best team the Seahawks have played so far this season.
After a disappointing Week 2 loss to the Buccaneers, the Lions bounced back in Week 3. Detroit was able to travel to Arizona and beat Kyler Murray and the Cardinals 20-13. The Lions did that on the back of their running game, which is just the way head coach Dan Campbell likes to do it. The Lions’ running back room combined for a whopping 39 carries. David Montgomery led the way with 23 carries for 105 yards while finding the end zone once, and the explosive Jahmyr Gibbs rushed the ball 16 times for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Jared Goff and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown were on the same page in this one as well. The ‘Sun God’ caught seven of his eight targets for 75 yards and a touchdown, which is a stat line we have become accustomed to with St. Brown. Jared Goff threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns. It will be interesting to see how this QB/WR duo does against a tough Seattle secondary.
This matchup is shaping up to be a good one between the Seahawks and Lions. So far this season, the way to attack the Detroit defense is to air the football out. The Lions have allowed the most receiving yards to the wide receiver position with 609 this season. What makes this matchup interesting is that the Lions counteract by running the ball a lot, which has become their recipe for winning games.
With that said, our first Seahawks @ Lions pick is going to be on one of the Seahawks wide receivers. Jaxson Smith-Njigba is someone who we like in this matchup. JSN plays in the slot more than any other wide receiver in football, which is a perfect area to attack this Lions secondary. He is coming off a quiet game against the Dolphins, catching just three balls for 39 yards, but should be poised to bounce back in this one. Our Seahawks @ Lions pick is for Jaxson Smith-Njigba to go over 65 receiving yards in this matchup.
