We have a great early slate of NFL games in Week 3, but we have our eyes on a fantastic Sunday Night Football matchup. The reigning Super Bowl Champion (2-0) Kansas City Chiefs are traveling to Atlanta to take on the (1-1) Falcons.
In this article, we dive into our Chiefs @ Falcons picks and break down this Sunday Night Football matchup in Atlanta.
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a huge win at home against their rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-25. Kicker Harrison Butker drilled a 51-yard field goal as time expired, which secured the victory for the Chiefs. Unfortunately, with that Chiefs win, they came away with a huge loss.
The Chiefs lost Isiah Pacheco in this one to a fractured fibula. He was placed on IR on Monday and will be out for the next four weeks at a minimum. That is a huge loss for this Chiefs offense that has not been explosive throughout the first two weeks. Pacheco had the best day of all of the playmakers, getting 16 carries for 90 yards. Rashee Rice also had a solid day, catching five balls for 75 yards and a touchdown.
The guy who has been missing from this Chiefs offense so far has been Travis Kelce, who is coming off a game in which he had one catch for five yards on three targets. Patrick Mahomes also had a bit of a quiet game, throwing for just 151 yards and two interceptions. You have to believe with the Pacheco injury to this offense, the Chiefs will look to fully unleash Mahomes and Kelce.
As for the Falcons, everyone after Week 1 was panicking about how Kirk Cousins looked and rightfully so. However, Cousins looked better in Week 2, and he even played under center much more, which was a point of emphasis after Week 1. He finished 21-29 for 241 yards and two touchdowns.
Cousins led the Falcons to a fourth-quarter comeback drive to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 22-21. Cousins found Drake London for a seven-yard touchdown catch with 34 seconds left. Like Cousins, London had a much better day, catching six of his seven targets for 54 yards and that touchdown.
The Eagles had trouble containing Bijan Robinson in this one as well. He averaged 6.9 yards per carry, finishing with 97 yards on 14 carries while also catching four of his five targets for 25 yards. 18 touches for Bijan is an outstanding sight to see after what we saw from him last season. First-time Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson had a much better day in his second game as the playcaller in this one. Let’s see how he stacks up against the Kansas Chiefs this week.
With both teams coming off emotional wins, this makes for an outstanding matchup. This revamped Falcons team looks to get another statement win after taking down the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night football. To do so, we believe they will try to control the game on the ground to keep that clock running and try and keep the Chiefs offense off the field.
Our first Chiefs @ Falcons pick is that fewer than 47 total points will be scored in this matchup. We expect this to be a lower-scoring affair than most would think, with both offenses being a work in progress.
Our second Chiefs @ Falcons pick is for the second-year running back for the Falcons, Bijan Robinson. Through two weeks, we know he will be the workhorse in this offense because he is the best player on the field. From what we have seen through two games from the Falcons, they must continue leaning on Bijan in this matchup. You beat Patrick Mahomes by controlling the football, and that is what the Falcons will aim to do.
Our second Chiefs @ Falcons pick will be that Bijan Robinson has more than 100 yards total between rushing and receiving yards. We look for Bijan to once again have a big day based on the volume of work he is likely to see.
