Inter Miami sits in 5th place in the Eastern Conference with 42 points and a 12-6-4 record with three games in hand. In their last five matches, they recorded two 2-1 victories against the New England Revolution and Nashville SC. Their next game against FC Cincinnati on July 16 was Miami’s only loss since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup on June 29. Against the NY Red Bulls on July 19, the team dominated a 5-1 victory before heading home to face FC Cincinnati once again in their most recent game, which ended in a 0-0 scoreless draw.
Lionel Messi is always a lethal player to watch, as he scored 2 goals and 1 assist in his 5-1 win over the Red Bulls and continues to lead the league with 18 goals and 9 assists. The Argentinian is returning from a one-game suspension, so I expect him to be motivated to record another 1+ goals against Atlans. However, Tadeo Allende (7 goals and 1 assist), Telasco Segovia (7 goals and 5 assists) and Luis Suarez (5 goals and 10 assists) are all potential threats, whether it involves netting crucial goals or setting up the team’s maestro.
Liga MX has just started its season, with 3 games played for all teams. Atlas FC currently sits in 9th place on the table with 4 points and a 1-1-1 record. So far, Atlas began their campaign against Puebla with a 3-2 victory despite being outshot and outpossessed for most of the game. On their second matchday, they scored 3 goals once again, but only for a 3-3 draw by the end of 90’. In their most recent matchup on July 26, the Mexican side fell 3-1 against Monterrey in a game that featured two red cards.
Gaddi Aguire, Uros Djurdjevic, Diego Gonzalez, Eduardo Agguire, Jose Lozano and Doria all recorded 1 goal each for the team after 3 games so far. Eduardo Aguirre has 1 assist, while Diego Gonzalez leads the team with 3 assists. The Mexican side may be able to do some damage to Inter Miami’s defense, but the question is, can they outscore Miami’s attack?
Last season, Atlas didn’t have a single player in the league score more than 4 goals as they finished in 17th place. With a rocky start in their domestic league, it’s hard to see them outplay Inter Miami in any form.
While an early goal could change things, it’s more likely that Miami’s Lionel Messi will guide his team to another win with at least one goal tonight. With the help of Sergio Busquets in the midfield, Suarez up top making crucial runs, and Jordi Alba providing crosses from the left, I expect Inter Miami to pick up a win with Messi finding the back of the net.
