The third Grand Slam tournament begins this Monday, as the tennis world sets its sights on Wimbledon. There are plenty of storylines entering this year’s tournament, as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have dominated the men’s Grand Slam titles. The two young stars have combined to win six straight Grand Slams dating back to 2024, and it remains to be seen whether someone like Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev or the local fan favorite, Jack Draper, can break up Sinner and Alcaraz’s recent dominance.
I fell short with my 2025 French Open Men’s Winner prediction, as Sinner fell in the final to Alcaraz, but I’m not taking either favorite this time.
Once again, Sinner and Alcaraz are the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds and favorites to win another Grand Glam, but here are 10 players with the best chance to win this year’s French Open:
While the two top seeds are the favorites again, Djokovic was in the final last season, Jack Draper has home support behind him, and the 19-year-old Jakub Mensik could turn heads at this year’s tournament.
The 2024 Wimbledon tournament ended with Carlos Alcaraz defending his title, as the Spaniard beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). This was his fourth Grand Slam title, and he became the youngest men’s player in the Open Era to win the French Open + Wimbledon in the same year. Although Alcaraz was the main storyline last year, the tournament was filled with excitement, as there were 37 five-set matches, marking the most ever in a Grand Slam in the Open Area. This year’s tournament has a lot to live up to based on last year, and I expect it to be just as exciting.
Now, it’s hard to ignore how well Sinner and Alcaraz have played the last two years, but I expect things to get shaken up at this Grand Slam. The first player I can see winning this year’s tournament is Novak Djokovic. The 38-year-old Serbian is seeking his 25th Grand Slam title, and if he can win, he’d be the oldest men’s player to win a Grand Slam. Additionally, he’d tie Roger Federer’s Wimbledon tally, so there’s plenty of motivation for Novak to play his best. Now, he fell to Sinner at the French Open, but Wimbledon’s grass surface causes margins to be a lot smaller. Tiebreakers are a common occurrence, and few tennis stars can play tiebreakers better than him; I won’t be surprised if he lifts the trophy.
Next on my list is England’s own Jack Draper. Now, the draw hasn’t been released yet, but if he gets a favorable one, I can see a path for the 23-year-old. If Djokovic or Alexander Bublik land close to Sinner and Alcaraz in the bracket, Draper’s path could be wide open. He’s got the talent to win, as he currently sits at No. 4 in the World Rankings after winning a Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells a few months back. He’ll have the home fans behind him as well, so if the left-hander puts everything together, he has enough to win Wimbledon 2025.
The final Wimbledon prediction I’ll make is more of a long shot, as I love what Jakub Mensik has put together. Now, the Czech is just 19 years old, but age doesn’t seem to matter as much as it once did when you have Sinner (23 years old) and Alcaraz (22 years old) as the faces of the sport. He defeated Djokovic in the final of the Miami Open last year and lifted a Masters 1000 trophy. The next step would be a Grand Slam. Additionally, his playstyle is perfect for grass, and while consistency has been his biggest issue, he can still get hot at the right time.
Sinner or Alcaraz are the easy guys to back for this year’s Wimbledon, but I’ll take my chances backing the trio of Novak Djokovic, Jack Draper and Jakub Mensik.
