The third of four Grand Slams on the 2025 tennis schedule, Wimbledon, begins this Monday in London. Although the men’s side of the tournament has two big favorites, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the women’s side is much more open. The World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is the rightful favorite, but Coco Gauff is coming off a French Open title, while Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva all have the talent to win a Grand Slam.
Let’s dive into my Wimbledon picks and predictions for the women’s side, as I aim to pick another Grand Slam winner after nailing my 2025 French Open Women’s prediction.
Swiatek and Sabalenka have the best odds of winning the 2025 French Open, but I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the 10 women below win it all:
The 2024 Wimbledon Women’s tournament was filled with surprises, as Barbora Krejčíková defeated Jasmine Paolini in the final to win her first Wimbledon and second major singles title. The 2023 champion, Markéta Vondroušová, actually lost in the first round, which was just the second time in the Open Era that the defending champion lost in the first round. Additionally, Paolini was the first Italian woman in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon semifinals and final. Now, she is within the top 10 list above, but I don’t foresee her making a deep run this time around.
I’m going back to the well with my first pick at this year’s tournament: Coco Gauff. The 21-year-old just won at Roland Garros, and although grass is her worst surface, she’s reached the fourth round on three separate occasions (most notably as a 15-year-old in 2019). Since she’s the No. 2 seed, she wouldn’t face Sabalenka until the final, so she has the path to make a run this year. If the American star can avoid service mistakes like she did in Paris, Gauff has the tools to lift her third Grand Slam title.
My second pick on the women’s side is Iga Swiatek. Like Gauff, she hasn’t had much success on grass, but the Pole always has a chance to win whenever she takes the court. She made the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2023 and won the U.S. Open in 2022, so she’s shown she can win in fast conditions. After falling short in three sets to Sabalenka at the French Open, she’ll have extra motivation to bounce back and win Wimbledon for the first time.
My final Wimbledon prediction to win the women’s side is a long shot, but Jessica Pegula has the tools to win it all. The 31-year-old fell just short in the U.S. Open last summer and has reached the quarterfinals in six Grand Slams. One of those quarterfinal appearances came at Wimbledon in 2023, and she’s putting everything together at the right time. She is currently No. 3 in the world and will avoid playing Sabalenka and Gauff until the semis, so I’ll gladly predict her to pick up her first-ever major title in London.
